Court to hear ex-officers' appeals in Katrina case

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal appeals court is set to review the Justice Department's case against three former New Orleans police officers who were convicted of charges stemming from the fatal shooting of a man whose burned body turned up in Hurricane Katrina's aftermath.

David Warren, who was convicted of shooting 31-year-old Henry Glover without justification, and Gregory McRae, who was convicted of burning Glover's body in a car, are scheduled Wednesday to ask the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse their convictions and prison sentences.

A three-judge panel also is scheduled to hear arguments Wednesday from prosecutors appealing a judge's decision to order a new trial for a third officer, Travis McCabe, who was convicted of writing a false report on Glover's 2005 shooting.
