WIGGINS, Miss. (AP) - Authorities have seized 74 dogs at an alleged puppy mill in the Bond community of Stone County and the owner of the property has been charged with animal neglect.

Chief Deputy Phyllis Olds says 63-year-old Rowena Priest was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor animal neglect and was released on her own recognizance. If convicted she faces a $1,000 fine.

Authorities removed the dogs from two trailers and several makeshift outdoor shelters Tuesday. Officials say the dogs were about three weeks to 12 years old.

The dogs were taken to shelters in Hattiesburg and Gulfport.

Humane Society officials say they received a tip about the problem from an area flea market. Officials say the dogs' owner was known to sell puppies at flea markets in Mississippi and Alabama.
