Metairie, La. -
The Louisiana State Police, Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center and the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force will host a child safety seat event on Saturday, July 28 at Clearview Mall in Metairie.
Free booster seats will be given away to children who meet the height and weight requirements:
- Child MUST be 40-100 pounds
- Child MUST be less than 4 feet 9 inches tall
- Child MUST be present
Louisiana law requires drivers to ensure that every child under the age of 13 be properly secured. State Police say motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children.
State troopers say 96 percent of child safety seats are not installed properly. Anyone who wants to have their child's safety seat inspected can visit Troop B any Wednesday (except holidays) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The inspection is free.
