Metairie, LA – Troopers with the Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated an accident that claimed the life of a Metairie man. The accident occurred Monday at 10:20 p.m. on Airline Highway near Blair Drive. The man has been identified as 37-year-old Julius Nelson Jr.
Police say that Nelson was driving an SUV north on Airline Highway when he veered off of the road to the right, for unknown reasons. He then re-entered the north lanes and crossed over into the south lanes before overcorrecting, causing the vehicle to flip onto its roof.
Nelson was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene. Toxicology results are pending an autopsy. Police say that Nelson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
