Updated:

Port Sulphur, La. - Plaquemines Parish broke ground on a brand new medical center Wednesday.

Plaquemines Medical Center is the only urgent and emergency care facility from Venice to Gretna.

The 44,000 square foot facility will be three stories with the main clinic raised 25 feet.

It will include two major trauma rooms, two procedure rooms, and 10 examination rooms

There's also plans for a heli-pad on the roof.

The Plaquemines Medical Center has treated people in temporary buildings since hurricane Katrina.
