Roswell, N.M. - A thrill seeker hopes a skydive from space will help him work up to breaking a world record.

Felix Baumgartner, who also goes by the name "Fearless Felix," dove today from 18 miles in the air.

He landed safely near Roswell, New Mexico.

Baumgartner hopes to eventually go supersonic with a world record breaking 23 mile dive.

The current record is held by Joe Kittinger.

In 1960, he dove from 19 miles in the sky.

Kittinger watched today's jump.

NASA is monitoring Baumgartner's stunts.
