Leeville, La. - As drivers head down to Grand Isle for this year's Tarpon Rodeo, the Louisiana Department of Transportation hopes to paying the Leeville bridge toll a fast and easy process.
"Our goal is to be proactive in ensuring that motorists will have a pleasant travel experience to the island and to keep the flow of traffic at a steady pace," said Rhett Desselle, DOTD Assistant Secretary of Operations. "We have already seen an increase in traffic volume to the area, so we're ready."
The state says it will staff La. 1 throughout the event which runs from July 26 - 28, 2012. Port Fourchon Police will also help manage the traffic.
Besides the toll machine which can accept credit/debit card transactions, the state says toll collectors will be on hand to take cash and disburse change in an effort to keep traffic moving faster.
DOTD reminds GeauxPass holders that they have access to a non-stop, open toll lane on La. 1.
Other ways to expedite travel on La. 1 are:
· Pay attention to the advance warning signs along La. 1 leading up to the toll gantry, to determine your vehicle toll classification BEFORE you reach the toll collectors or in-lane cash and charge machine.
· Have your cash or credit/debit card ready before you reach the toll collectors or the in-lane cash and charge machine.
· Take your time when approaching the toll collectors or in-lane cash and charge machine for the safety of the workers and so your vehicle is within arm's reach of the keypad, credit/debit card swiper and bill/coin collectors.
· If using credit/debit card, select your vehicle type from the chart posted next to the keypad, remember to press "OK" BEFORE inserting your card.
To reduce transaction time, toll customers are encouraged to use a credit/debit card.
