Former Saint Steve Gleason blocks a punt, Sept. 25, 2006-WVUE
New Orleans, La. - The New Orleans Saints will unveil a "Rebirth" statue at the Superdome Friday which will capture the team's emotional return to the dome after Hurricane Katrina in September 2006.
Last year, Coach Sean Payton said the statue will commemorate the heart-stopping moment when Steve Gleason blocked the punt in the game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Friday's private, invitation-only event will include Gleason and sculptor Brian Hanlon.
The "Rebirth" statue will be placed on the southwest Plaza Level of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
That blocked punt was a moment no fan can forget. The heightened emotion of returning to the Superdome that Monday night exploded into euphoria. The Saints went on to beat the rival Falcons.
