Mitigation to habitat damage to be discussed at public meeting-AP Photo
New Orleans, La. – The US Army Corps of Engineers is looking for public input on the environmental impact of the hurricane protection system.
The Corps will host a public meeting Tuesday, July 31st to provide an update on measures proposed to mitigate impact on habitats as a result of construction of the West Bank & Vicinity portion of the system.
In a news release from the US Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, Senior project manager Sohelia Holley said, "Throughout construction we avoided and minimized impacts to natural resources."
She says during the meeting community members will have the opportunity to review the sites where the Corps is proposing mitigation for impacts that could not be avoided.
The public meeting will include an informational open house followed by a brief presentation.
The meeting will be held, Tuesday, July 31 at the Westwego Ernest Tassin Senior Center, 701 4th Street in Westwego. . The open house will be from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m.
