4 dead in two shootings in 7th Ward, Gentilly Terrace

Police are investigating two shootings that left a total of four people dead.

Officers were called shortly after 4:00 p.m. to an apartment in the 1900 block of Old Prieur Street in the 7th Ward, where three people were shot and killed.  

NOPD sent a press release on this shooting Friday evening:

Two females and one man [were] killed after a shooting this evening in the Seventh Ward Neighborhood. The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of family members.

Police responded to a call of unknown trouble inside on a house in the 1900 block of Old Prieur Street at approximately 4:15 P.M.  Officers arrived and found a 28 and 58-year-old female and a 26-year-old man shot to death. 

No forced entry into the house was discovered and detectives are in the process of determining the relationship of the victims.

The incident remains under investigation and is on-going.        

The Lead Homicide Detective in this case is Sergeant Nicholas Gernon.  

NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas says police received no reports from the neighborhood of gunfire there, prior to the discovery of the victims' bodies.

A short time earlier, a shooting was reported in the 2700 block of Verbena Street.  NOPD released a statement on that homicide Friday evening:

Homicide Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a 61-year-old unidentified man. Shortly before 4:00pm officers were called out to a "male down" inside of a red Dodge Van in the 2700 block of Verbena Street. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.

"The victim was found in the driver's seat. He'd been shot multiple times and died at the hospital."

Witnesses observed a red vehicle fleeing the area.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.
