Lafourche crash claims one life

Lafourche Parish, La.- Police responded to a crash at the intersection of LA 3235 and LA 3162 shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday night that killed a 42-year-old woman.

Investigators say a Saturn, driven by 17-year-old Dominique Barquero, was traveling south on LA 3235 approaching LA 3162 when the Saturn was struck by an Equinox, driven by 44-year-old Clifton Sam Jr., traveling north on LA 3235 after failing to yield to oncoming traffic.  as the Saturn crossed the northbound lanes of LA 3235.

Barquero and Sam Jr., who were both wearing a seat belt, were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The right rear seat passenger in the Saturn, who is identified at 42-year-old Ouga Saucillo of Lockport, died while in route to the hospital.  Saucillo was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Police do not suspect alcohol impairment to be a factor in the crash.  Blood was taken from both drivers and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

This crash remains under investigation.
