New Orleans, La.- Dangerous humidity and hot temperatures have the Louisiana SPCA warning pet owners not to leave their pets outside.
Workers with the association says this kind of heat is a huge threat to your pet outside.
"Animals can overheat very quickly. Particularly pets that are furrier or have shorter muzzles; also dogs that are older, young puppies, as well as kittens, can suffer from heat stroke a lot faster than you think," says Ana Zorrilla with the LASPCA. "So, we're reminding people to bring their pets indoors particularly during those peak heat hours."
The LASPCA suggests if your pets are outside, make sure they have a shady area with lots of water. Under no circumstance should you leave a pet in a car.
Inside a car the temperatures can soar to more than 120 degrees in a matter of minutes with the windows cracked.
Contact your local SPCA office if you see any animals in distress left outside in the heat.
