BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 27-year-old child sitter has been accused of leaving a two-year-old girl inside a parked vehicle with the windows and doors closed for at least an hour and a half Saturday.

The Advocate reports that Sunjay Barber, 27, was booked with child desertion and cruelty to a juvenile by Baton Rouge Police over the weekend.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, the child was left in a car inside a parking garage attached to a hotel and casino. The car's engine was not running.

Police were called after a witness and hotel security saw the child screaming inside the car. Police said the child continuously asked for food and water once she was removed from the car.

Police traced paperwork in the car to the car's owner and called them.

The child's grandmother and Barber arrived and said they were taking care of five children and the toddler must have been overlooked while they unloaded the vehicle earlier. They told police the child was left in the vehicle for an hour and a half, according to the affidavit.

When the mother arrived she told police her child was left in the care of Barber while she was preparing for a wedding to take place the next day. The mother also told police she had no idea the toddler was in the car and she assumed the toddler was asleep with the other children.
