Mandeville, La. -
Most of us are tested at one time or another to do the right thing, but one Mandeville man's moral compass is working overtime.
"It was Sunday morning, I was leaving to go for a bike ride to Abita Springs. It was 6:00 a.m. and I'm driving out here," said developer John Crosby, who has some interesting stories to tell.
The latest happened a couple of weeks ago on Highway 22 in Mandeville.
"Right in the middle of the street I see a bank pouch. I was surprised at what I found -- $2,500!" Crosby said.
$2,536.65, to be exact.
He took a picture of it and, instead of waiting until the next business day, he called police right away. He said he figured he may have saved some employee's job by finding it.
Bear's Restaurant was just a few yards away. On Saturday, July 22, it was busy and a night manager got distracted.
"She gathered all her stuff and put it up on top of her car with the money pouch that had checks in it and drove off. It fell out on the road," he said.
That was the night before Crosby found it. The night manager had no idea the wad of cash was missing. She planned to make a Monday deposit.
"We didn't lose anything -- we were very fortunate," restaurant owner Matt Watson said.
John Crosby has been the right place at the right time more than once.
Crosby is the good Samaritan who dove into the lake to save a jumper in April 2010. Good deeds run in his family -- his father saved a man who had fallen into the river after a ship accident in 1952.
