Thousands participate in the 2012 Red Dress Run

New Orleans, LA - - Ladies, don't panic. Your red dresses will be safely returned to the closet sometime tonight.

More than 7,000 people took part in the Hash House Harriers 18th Annual Red Dress Run.

The run is filled with lots of good times, food and live music.

It's a fundraiser that goes beyond just today.

In 2011, The Hash House Harriers Organization raised over $200,000.

Their goal is to help local non-profit organizations.

"The various charities actually contact us and put in a submit for a grant and that process will be done in the next couple of months. Nearly 100 charities got grants last year. That funding may be the major source of funding for that year because of this event," says Event Organizer, Chuck George.

The 2012 Red Dress Run has the largest attendance across the United States.

San Francisco will come in a close second.

There are 17 French Quarter bars that are affiliated with the race as participants run through the streets of the French Quarter and downtown New Orleans.

The Hash House Harriers donates to charities like the American Lung Association, The Healing House and The Jefferson SPCA.
