Desire neighborhood standoff ends peacefully

Updated:

New Orleans, LA - A tense standoff with members of the NOPD ended peacefully after 26-year-old Robert Maize barricaded himself inside a residence in the 3100 block of Morrice Duncan Drive.

Police received a call around 5:30 Saturday evening of Maize making threats to his neighbors. Officers arrived on the scene and found him barricaded inside his house stating he had weapons.

A statement released from the NOPD reads, "After numerous failed attempts were made through negotiations for Maize to surrender, gas was deployed into the residence and Maize subsequently surrendered to police at approximately 11:35 p.m."

Maize was taken to a hospital and when released will be charged with threats on his neighbor.

This incident remains under investigation.
