An NOPD officer arrested for DWI

New Orleans, La. - Harahan police officers arrested an NOPD officer for DWI.

57 year-old Eddie Polite, III was stopped Friday night on Hickory Street. At first, we're told Polite didn't want to stop for the officers.

Harahan P.D. tells us Polite was driving with no headlights, going the wrong way on a one-way street and refused to take a breathalyzer test.

The NOPD says Harahan officers smelled alcohol on his breath.

The NOPD says Polite could not properly finish a field sobriety test.

Harahan authorities got a warrant to draw Polite's blood. We're told those results could take a few weeks.

Polite is a 28-year veteran of the NOPD, and was working in the Second District. An NOPD spokeswoman says Polite has been placed on emergency suspension without pay. Polite's case is now the subject of a Public Integrity Bureau investigation.
