Hammond approves home demolitions

HAMMOND, La. (AP) - The City Council voted this past week to order demolition of three houses and gave the owners of two others 60 days to either make significant improvements or tear them down.

The Advocate reports city building inspector Bobby Mitchell said all the sites recommended for demolition more than surpassed the city's standard that a structure must have at least 50 percent damage before it can be condemned.

Properties approved for immediate demolition were 101 Rosewood Circle, 101 E. Park Ave. and 111 Reed St.
