Mandatory evacuation declared for Jean Lafitte, Crown Point, Barataria

FOX 8 News received the following press release from Jefferson Parish authorities shortly after 12:00 a.m. Monday:

Town of Jean Lafitte Mayor Tim Kerner and Jefferson Parish President John Young announce a Mandatory Evacuation for residents in Lafitte, Crown Point, and Barataria effective at 9:00 AM tomorrow, Monday, August 27, 2012.

Jefferson Parish Emergency Management will make available a Medical Special-Needs Hotline beginning at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning, Monday, August 27, 2012, for Jefferson Parish citizens with special medical needs requiring assistance with self-evacuation.

The number to call for special needs patients only is 504-349-5642.

The hotline is provided to assist with planning, transportation, and shelter with medical assistance for those citizens with special medical requirements who choose to evacuate.

Medical Special-Needs patients include citizens who are:

• Bedridden

• Ventilator Dependent

• Dialysis

• One caretaker is permitted to travel and stay with the special needs evacuee in a designated facility/shelter
