St. Tammany Parish Public Schools Set To Reopen
St. Tammany Parish Public Schools and Offices will reopen on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 following the already scheduled Labor Day Holiday. "All of our Principals inspected their schools following Hurricane Isaac and maintenance workers have spent the past three days making minor repairs on all campuses." said Superintendent W.L. "Trey" Folse, III. The St. Tammany Parish Public School System had only one school with serious damage from the storm. Hurricane Isaac pushed water into St. Tammany Junior High. The School System was able to bring contractors into the school on Saturday and they have been working around the clock to ensure the reopening of the school for Tuesday.
School System leaders are continuing to work closely with the parish to monitor the levels of the West Pearl River which is expected to crest Monday evening. If there is flooding due to this situation, it could impact families in the school districts of Cypress Cove Elementary, Honey Island Elementary, Little Oak Middle, Boyet Junior, and Northshore High. Parents and employees in those areas should continue to monitor the School System website, www.stpsb.org, Channel 13, St. Tammany Parish Public Schools on Facebook and STPPSchools on Twitter for any possible updates due to the uncertainty of this situation.
