HARVEY, La. (AP) - The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says a 29-year-old man has been booked with second-degree murder in the death of a funeral home employee whose decomposing body was found in the apartment where he lived in the funeral home.

The sheriff's office says Alfred R. Scott of Marrero was arrested Wednesday and booked in the stabbing death of 51-year-old Noah Stoute.

Stoute was a caretaker and embalmer at Mothe Funeral Home in Harvey. His body was found Tuesday, but he apparently was killed Aug. 28, as Hurricane Isaac was approaching.

The sheriff's office says Scott confessed to killing Stoute after they met at a Harvey lounge and went to Stoute's apartment.

Scott allegedly took some of Stoute's belongings and set fire to his car in Algiers after the slaying.
