BELLE CHASSE -- Thursday, Plaquemines Parish Emergency Operations Center and Parish President Billy Nungesser provide the following updates:
Both AT&T and Verizon have deployed trucks to southern Plaquemines Parish to begin work on towers.
MRE's and water continue to be available to Plaquemines Parish residents.
Residents can pick up water, ice and MRE's at the Port Sulphur Community Center at 278 Civic Drive, Boothville-Venice Elementary School at 1 Oiler Drive, and the Percy Griffin Community Center at 15577 Hwy 15 in Davant.
As of today, power has been restored to all customers in Belle Chasse who can receive it. Customers in the area without power should contact Entergy at 1-800-9-OUTAGE (688243).
For the communities of Myrtle Grove to Diamond, customers should start seeing power in 2 weeks if they can receive power.
Customers from Diamond to Boothville-Venice have started to see power and will continue to for the next 2 weeks as repairs are made. Freemans, the Medical Center, and South Plaquemines Elementary and High School and Boothville Elementary now have power.
On the east bank, from Carlisle to Bohemia, customers are beginning to see power today and will continue to for the next 5-10 days.
Customers from Braithwaite to Whiteditch may start to see power in 7-14 days if they can receive power. Flood water continues to be an issue.
These are estimates and are subject to change due to weather and accessibility.
Road Accessibility and Water Levels
Water levels on Hwy 23 on the west bank are expected to recede to a level at which cars may pass in approximately 2 days.
Residents, business owners, and workers can return to south Plaquemines Parish from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. with a police escort. From 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. residents, business owners, and workers can leave south Plaquemines Parish with police escort. They will be escorted on the Mississippi River levee. The time during the day between south and north escorts will be used to maintain the integrity of the levee. Parish officials will be on site to ensure that no recreational vehicles are allowed through. Residents will need proof of residency and business owners and workers will need credentials or other proof of employment to get through road blocks.
The convoy going south from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. should drive south on Hwy 23 to the road block. The convoy going north from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. should drive north on Hwy 23 until the road block.
Expect delays because of the number of people trying to enter and leave the area.
Residents can get to the east bank of Plaquemines Parish, south of Braithwaite Park by using the Belle Chasse Ferry. Residents can get to Braithwaite Park by using the Chalmette Ferry. Stolthaven is closed to all traffic.
Sewerage and Water Update:
There is currently a boil advisory in effect from Jesuit Bend to Boothville-Venice.
We are anticipating that all sewer and water lines will be running from St. Jude to Venice by tomorrow.
