Firefighters battle early morning blaze

New Orleans, La.- A three-alarm fire broke out in a double shotgun home in the 1700 block of Jackson Ave. near St. Charles just before 1 a.m. Thursday.

A neighbor across the street spotted the fire and called 911.

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the roof.

No one was living in the home, which had been vacant since May, but the power was still on.

The homeowner told investigators that she checked on the house last weekend after Hurricane Isaac.

A firefighter injured his foot fighting the fire. He was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
