Labadieville, La. – Police arrested 23-year-old Travanti Williams and charged him with one count of molestation of a juvenile.
Assumption Parish deputies were dispatched to the New Belmont Baptist Church located at 3037 Highway 1 in Labadieville On September 9th, in reference to an alleged sexual assault.
When they deputies arrived, they spoke with the complainant who stated that she discovered her 14-year-old daughter behind the church with Williams.
The mother told police it appeared that the two were involved in an inappropriate sexual act and she approached the two, pushed her daughter off of the man and called police.
Williams fled the area before deputies could arrive.
During the investigation detectives learned that the two were attending church on that day when the 14-year-old went outside and Williams approached her.
Williams then led her to a secluded area behind the church where he placed her in a bear hug and began to sexually assault her.
The girl informed detectives that this was not the first time Williams had made a sexual advance towards her. She was taken for medical evaluation and later released.
Williams was taken into custody Thursday and booked on unrelated charges of simple criminal damage to property under $500, un-authorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, simple battery and failure to appear for simple battery.
