Baton Rouge, La. - LSU junior quarterback Zach Mettenberger's first SEC road test was not entirely smooth, but the Tigers did win. Now it's time to improve on the 15-of-27, 169 yard passing attempt.
"I liked his leadership, the back end of the game," coach Les Miles said during his weekly media session. "I thought the throw he made [on third and four with less than four minutes left] was a decision he made with a nice throw. What we're doing offensively, Zach is capable of doing."
"Everybody kind of came out here and expected Zach to throw for 3,000 or 4,000 yards but he's still a first year quarterback," receiver Russell Shepard pointed out. "I don't care if you're Peyton Manning or any great quarterback, first year quarterbacks are going to have their struggles."
Saturday's 12-10 victory over Auburn was the first time Mettenberger did not throw a touchdown pass.
