Pearl River, La – A woman has died and a man was injured, following a mobile home fire in Pearl River. The fire occurred Monday, around 9:00 p.m. on Hwy 41. Fire officials believe the cause of the fire is accidental. The victims' names have yet to be released.
A state fire spokesman said that responding firefighters arrived on the scene to find the mobile home fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters learned that one of the home's occupants did not escape the house. The man, who was able to escape the home, was transported to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. State Fire Marshall investigators were called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
Investigators believe that the fire started somewhere near the center of the home. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. Investigators learned that the house contained no working smoke detectors at the time of the fire.
Louisiana State Fire Marshall Butch Browning stated, "We have no conclusion at this time, but we will be working in hopes of finding answers to this tragic loss of life. We are once again investigating a fire death in a home with no working smoke alarms. Let this be a wake up call as to the importance of these lifesaving devices."
An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday to determine the woman's exact cause of death.
