New Orleans, La. - New Orleans Police say a 39 year old woman left her two year old child alone in a local park, and never attempted to locate the toddler.
Sherry Lee has been arrested on a charge of child desertion after leaving the toddler at Washington Square Park Tuesday morning. Police say Lee showed up to claim her child after learning that the little boy's picture was being shown on TV.
A good Samaritan contacted police on Tuesday after they noticed the little boy playing in Washington Square by himself.
Police reached out to the public when they could not find a parent or guardian. After the child's picture was shown on Fox 8 News and other media outlets, the mother went to the 8th District Police Station to pick up the child, and she was then brought to NOPD Headquarters for questioning.
Police say Lee admitted she left the child in the park unsupervised and never again tried to locate her child or call police. Lee remains in custody at Orleans Parish Prison. The child was brought to the state department of children and family services, who now retains custody.
