A Jefferson man is under arrest after the shooting death of a man in Metairie.

FOX 8 News received this news release from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Thursday afternoon:

Sheriff Newell Normand announces the arrest of DRU LILLEY, W/M, 25, of 212 Shrewsbury Court, Jefferson LA for one count of Negligent Homicide and one count of a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

On September 26th, 2012 at 10:42 PM our officers were dispatched to Ochsner Hospital at 1516 Jefferson Highway, in reference to a male subject with a gunshot wound to the chest being dropped off by a dark colored SUV at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was identified as Garland Stockman, B/M, 35, of 2409 Manson Avenue, Apt A, in Metairie. Stockman was rushed into surgery where he was pronounced shortly thereafter.

Investigators were able to identify the person who was driving the vehicle that dropped Stockman off as Dru Lilley. [Lilley] initially reported that he and Stockman were friends, and that Stockman was shot in the city of New Orleans. When Lilley was unable to provide the exact location where Stockman was shot, he recanted his story by saying that Stockman was accidentally shot while they both were playing with a handgun.

Lilley told investigators that he and Stockman were in the 3500 block of Robertson Street in Metairie when the shooting occurred. Lilley said Stockman produced a black semi-automatic handgun, which in turn, he began playing around with. Lilley advised that he took the gun from Stockman at which time he stated they both began playing with the gun. Lilley claimed Stockman hit the gun while he was holding it in his hand causing it to discharge striking Stockman in the chest. Stockman told investigators that he decided drop Stockman off at Ochsner Hospital, and after doing so, he discarded the weapon on Interstate 10 West, between Causeway Boulevard and Clearview Parkway. Attempts to locate the weapon were unsuccessful.

JPSO Detective Sergeant Kevin Decker conducted a computer check of Dru Lilley and discovered he was convicted in 2011 for Possession of Heroin. Based on Decker's findings, Dru Lilley was placed under arrest for one count of Negligent Homicide along with being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He was transported to the JPCC and booked accordingly.
