New Orleans, La. - Police have arrested 60-year-old Pervez Iqbal in connection with the September 29 rape of a woman who left the French Quarter in a cab around 3:00 a.m.

Iqbal currently is charged with simple kidnapping and police plan to charge him with forcible rape. According to New Orleans police, he is a cab driver for American Cab Company.

Police say a 25-year-old woman got into a cab alone in the 600 block of Decatur, after a night of partying in the French Quarter.  A friend instructed the cab driver to take her home.  Police say the victim lost consciousness during the ride and the driver made a detour.

When the woman came to, she found herself in an unfamiliar place, naked on a mattress with a man on top of her.  After the attack, the man drove her home in the cab.

According to police the victim identified Iqbal in a police line-up.  They also say he is not cooperating with police questioning.

The NOPD is holding a 3:15 press conference to provide more information. Watch FOX 8 News at 4 and 5pm for the latest details.
