NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Federal Communications Commission is announcing steps to provide more complete "3G" and "4G" mobile communications service to Louisiana.

In a Wednesday news release, the FCC said Central Louisiana Cellular LLC will receive over $3.35 million to fill the gaps in third- and fourth-generation communications services in five parishes: Grant, Natchitoches, Rapides, Sabine and Vernon.

Central Louisiana Cellular was among the winners of what the FCC calls a nationwide "mobility auction," which allocated $300 million in savings from a program to cut waste and inefficiency.

The agency said that, nationwide, 38 companies and subsidiaries participated in the auction, submitting nearly 900 bids to provide coverage along up to 83,000 road miles
