AAA: Locals not in danger of drastic gas price hike

New Orleans, La. - Drivers in the New Orleans area don't need to worry about the recent spike in gas prices to hit some cities.

A lot of people on the West Coast woke up Friday to discover gas prices jumped nearly 20 cents overnight. That means some stations were asking for more than $5.00 a gallon.

AAA analysts blame the price hike on a combination of demand and West Coast refinery problems. Those factors don't impact prices in the New Orleans metro area.

The average price for a gallon of regular in the metro area is about $3.60 right now. That's about 16 cents less compared to a month ago.
