Raceland, La.- Four men were arrested in Raceland Saturday night after an alleged carjacking in New Orleans.
The four were charged with possession of stolen property in Lafourche and could face additional charges pending the outcome of the investigation by the NOPD into the carjacking incident.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday, deputies were dispatched to U.S. Highway 90 after receiving a report from the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office that a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro had been stolen at gunpoint in New Orleans and was located on Highway 90, near its intersection with LA 182 in Raceland.
Deputies spotted the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle slowed down to about 60 MPH and pulled onto the shoulder of the highway but then re-entered the highway and accelerated to over 100 MPH, refusing to stop.
Deputies followed the vehicle for approximately five miles before the car was remotely deactivated via OnStar.
Once the vehicle was deactivated, deputies ordered each of the four occupants out of the vehicle and detained them.
The driver was identified as 23-year-old Fred Jones of 1301 New Orleans and the three passengers were identified as 20-year-old Oren Pichon of Morgan City, 23-year-old Willie Smith of New Orleans and 19-year-old Kurwin Webb of Morgan City.
In addition, deputies searched the vehicle and located a plastic bag with four small packages of suspected heroin weighing a total of 0.08 gross grams.
All four men were placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where they were each charged with illegal possession of stolen things.
Jones was additionally charged with aggravated flight from an officer with intentional refusal to stop/life endangerment.
Through questioning, deputies learned the heroin belonged to Webb and he was additionally charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin.
Webb and Jones are being held in lieu of $100,000 bond each, while Pichon and Smith are being held in lieu of $50,000 bond each.
