One arrested in Raceland stabbing

Raceland, La.- Police arrested 30-year-old Gerardo Sanchez for allegedly stabbing another man following an argument early Sunday morning.

Investigators say Sanchez and the other man were at an apartment on St. Louis Street late Saturday night when the two got into an argument for unknown reasons.

Following the argument, Sanchez allegedly stabbed the other man in the stomach with an unknown weapon. The victim was able to find a ride to a local hospital to which deputies were dispatched at around 12:45 a.m. Sunday morning.

The victim was having trouble breathing and was later treated for a collapsed lung on his left side. 

Deputies began searching for Sanchez and they arrived at the apartment complex where the incident took place. Police located Sanchez sleeping in his truck outside.

He was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with aggravated second degree battery.

Sanchez is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.

Despite a sentence of 40 years to life, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency voted to release him from prison into home arrest. Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.
