Covington, La. -
Friends and family of a murdered North Shore woman breathed a sigh of relief as a Covington judge postponed a hearing on whether to lower bond for the man accused of killing Bridget Harveston.
Benson O'Brien had 34 arrests dating back to when he was 15 years old, prior to his being charged in the murder of 31-year-old Bridget Harveston.
Many wonder how he was out of jail at all, and there were some tense moments in a St. Tammany courtroom Wednesday as relatives of the murder victim attended a bond hearing scheduled by Benson's attorney in an effort to reduce it once again.
The victim's mother, Marlene Everett, told FOX 8, "It went down from $1.25 million to $300,000 so we were a little worried it would go down, but we were pleased that it didn't and he's still incarcerated. I do believe he would be a flight risk and he's a dangerous person.'
Prosecutors said they have new evidence and wanted to raise the bond, so 22nd Judicial District Judge William Burris postponed the bond hearing until next month.
O'Brien's attorneys declined to comment on this case.
For now, O'Brien remains in jail, unable to make the current $300,000 bond.
