NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The New Orleans skate park opened by Lil Wayne and corporate sponsors less than three weeks ago appears to be shuttered.
Ward McLendon, who manages the Lower 9th Ward facility where the Trukstop skate park is located, said Wednesday there was a "misunderstanding" over when the park would officially open.
Organizers at the Sept. 26 ribbon-cutting said the park would open to the public Oct. 1, but McLendon says the insurance and staff needed to run the facility could not be lined up in time.
McLendon says the park's new opening has been set for Oct. 27.
The Grammy-winning rapper partnered with Mountain Dew and Glu Agency, a New York-based advertising firm, to launch the park, which was built with recycled materials provided by Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation.
