Bitter dispute rages over CCC tolls extension

Jefferson Parish, La. - The bitter dispute over the Crescent City Connection tolls has been going on for a long time.

Next month, voters in Orleans, Plaquemines, and Jefferson Parishes will decide whether to extend the tolls or stop them all together.

The Westbank Civic Coalition held a forum Wednesday evening to inform the public about the issue.

People are very passionate on both sides of the issue. Some believe getting rid of the tolls will mean a loss of maintenance on the bridge, a loss of bridge police and a loss of safety and ornamental lighting.

Others say the state will step up and provide those services.  They say money collected in the past has not gone to fund the projects it was supposed to. Now, they believe, if the toll money isn't stopped, there will be more waste in the future.

The issue will be on the November 6 ballot.
