BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A week after $152 million in cuts were levied across the LSU public hospitals, Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce Greenstein says no new formal arrangements have yet been reached with private hospitals to pick up the care.
But he and LSU hospitals chief Frank Opelka said Thursday they're having solid discussions with private health care facilities on ways to "partner" on services and medical training programs.
They pointed to a letter of intent signed this week in Lafayette, between LSU and Lafayette General Medical Center, establishing that they are exploring options for collaboration.
The Jindal administration levied $300 million of a federal financing reduction on LSU's network of hospitals and clinics and wants to shift much of the care to private companies, saying that would lessen costs and improve care.
