DOTD study: No CCC tolls likely to force lane reduction

Updated:

Baton Rouge, La. - If voters decide to get rid of tolls on the Crescent City Connection, drivers will likely see the number of lanes near the toll plaza to go from 12 to four.

That's just one of the potential impacts researchers with the Department of Transportation and Development announced Thursday.  They released findings of a months-long study, evaluating potential impacts of getting rid of the tolls.

They think reducing the number of lanes is the most efficient and safest way to deal with potential changes of driving habits.

It could take up to nine months to remove the toll booths.

Voters in Plaquemines, Jefferson and Orleans parishes will decide on November 6 if tolls on the Crescent City Connection should be discontinued after December 31.

People who want to keep the tolls argue the money is needed for safety and maintenance.
