PEARLINGTON, Miss. (AP) - Officials say a semi-truck pulling a trailer of four circus elephants ran off Interstate 10 in south Mississippi on Sunday night, but the driver and animals were not hurt.

Kurt Necaise, incident commander for West Hancock County Fire and Rescue, says three elephants were unloaded while the trailer was unhooked from the damaged truck and pulled back to the interstate, but the fourth was too angry to unload.

Necaise said the other elephants were reloaded and a tow company pulled the trailer to a welcome center where the circus could pick it up.

Necaise says the animals belong to Cole Brothers Circus of the Stars and were headed to Hammond, La., when the truck wrecked in rural Hancock County, Miss.

The circus didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
