Bridge City, La. -
A contractor died and a second was injured in an industrial accident at the Cargill facility in Bridge City.
This happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the facility at 933 River Road.
Chief Keith Plaisance of the Nine Mile Point Volunteer Fire Department says firefighters responded to a call for medical assistance at the facility, and found that a service lift for the Cargill grain elevator malfunctioned and fell with the two elevator technicians inside. Plaisance says the volunteers had to extract the men from the wrecked lift.
"Forty-four year-old Jeffery Feucht of 4256 Loire Drive in Kenner was killed," reads a press release from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. "He was pronounced dead on the scene. A fellow worker, identified as Steven Steel... 25, of Slidell sustained moderate injuries which were not considered life threatening. He was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
"They were working on a man lift, which raises and lowers people outside the grain storage silos (also called elevators)," reads a brief statement from a Cargill media representative. "We're in process of talking with employees - this is obviously upsetting - and working with authorities to investigate what happened."
