New Orleans, La. - After a ring at the door Monday, a woman who lives in the St. Roch area is held at gunpoint in a home invasion.
"Don't answer your door for nobody," said the 25-year-old victim.
It all started around 1:30 Monday afternoon. A resident of Spain Street in the St. Roch area hears the doorbell. She cracks the front door to see who is there.
"He pushed the door open and had the gun to my head," said the victim. "My two kids was sitting there on the ground."
Her children, ages 1 and 5, saw it all. The woman says her five-year-old daughter was well aware of the danger. "She was like, 'Mommy, mommy, he's going to kill you... He's not going to kill you, huh, mommy?'"
The victim says the gunman was inside her home for about 10 minutes. She said he held a gun to her head in front of her children. He forced her to walk through the home, opening doors and drawers so he could steal money and jewelry without leaving fingerprints. "Whatever he needed to touch, he didn't want to touch. He wanted me to touch it," said the woman.
After robbing her, she says the man with dreadlocks called for a ride and then took off down the street. According to New Orleans police, he got away with jewelry and $230 in cash.
"That's sad and pathetic for somebody to do something like that knowing that you have kids right there," said the victim. "And he told me he spared my life because my kids was there."
The victim says the gunman also told her that he would be back.
This was apparently not a random attack. The victim tells police the gunman was looking for someone he thought lived there. The victim says she told the man he had the wrong address, but her robbed her anyway.
