New Orleans, La.-- The trial for a pastor the FOX 8 Defenders has followed for allegedly stealing Road Home money from the elderly has been continued, again. Elijah Mealancon showed up at Orleans Criminal District Court Thursday morning for a bench trial, but his public defender called out sick.
Judge Ben Willard told another attorney with the Public Defender's Office, Mealancon's case has been "rolled too many times," and the judge said he was very disappointed in the public defender.
Mealancon is out on bond, but was arrested twice on theft charges. New Orleans homeowners the FOX 8 Defenders has interviewed said they paid Mealancon to re-build their homes, but he never finished the work. In February, FOX 8 found that Mealancon, who was acting as a residential contractor through his Elijah Christian Ministries, wasn't even licensed to do contractor work in Louisiana.
Mealancon's trial has been pushed back to December 7th.
