NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal judge has agreed to postpone a trial for a New Orleans man charged with having a role in five killings, including the fatal shooting of an off-duty police officer.

Steven Earl Hardrick's trial was scheduled to start Oct. 29, but his attorneys complained that federal authorities waited until Wednesday to test bullets removed from two victims' bodies. Defense attorneys received ballistics reports from those tests later the same day.

U.S. District Judge Sarah Vance agreed Friday to move the start of Hardrick's trial to Jan. 8. Prosecutors didn't object to the delay.

Hardrick is charged in the 2007 death of New Orleans Police Detective Thelonius Dukes, who was shot at his home. Hardrick also is charged in two other 2007 shootings that killed four men.
