FOX 8 News received this news release from RTA Friday afternoon:
The river-bound lanes of Canal Street at the intersection of Loyola Avenue/Elk Place will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and again from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday to accommodate work on the special track that will connect the Loyola Avenue Streetcar line and the Canal Streetcar line.
New Orleans Police Department officers will be onsite to reroute traffic around the construction area.
The Loyola Avenue Streetcar Expansion project is a $45 million rail expansion funded through a federal TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) competitive grant program, which funds innovative projects with significant economic and environmental benefits for the surrounding community and region.
The project has stimulated more than $2 billion in economic development in the corridor and surrounding area.
For questions or concerns about construction on the Loyola Streetcar Project call 855-522-5254. For transit-related questions, visit norta.com/myrta.
