New Orleans, La. - A blend of Halloween and the New Orleans Hornets made for an interesting season opener at the Arena.

Before the Hornets swarmed into action, fans made a beeline for a monstrous party in Champions Square.

"I always wanted to do the Hornets Vampire because I bleed blue," said a Hornets fan, all decked out in a handmade costume.

A block party with a Halloween twist was the start to a big night for the Hornets.  Fans enjoyed live music, food, drinks, hoops and dancing.

The costumes seen at the party were pretty impressive.  There was a costume contest with a lot up for grabs.  Three lucky fans in costume won courtside seats for the big season opener.  The wearer of the top costume also won an autographed team basketball.

Costumes also honored the first overall draft pick, Anthony Davis.  "Bow to the brow," said a fan.

"It's awesome because we've got a number one draft pick, brand new season," exclaimed another.

FOX 8 was proud to sponsor the costume contest.  FOX 8's Nicondra Norwood, dressed as a wicked queen, had a tough job of assisting with the judging.
