75-year-old man arrested for theft

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - Thibodaux Police Chief Scott Silverii says they've arrested a 75-year-old man accused of stealing a shopping basket full of purchased goods.

Silverii said Monday police were called to a Subway sandwich shop inside a Walmart about 10:40 p.m. Nov. 2 after a woman realized her basket was missing.

He says Jimmy Pennison of Shriever, who was inside the shop at the time, went outside and returned with the victim's buggy, claiming he confronted a suspect who fled the scene.

Pennison then tried to leave, telling the victim he couldn't wait for police to arrive. After an investigation, Silverii says police learned Pennison had actually taken the buggy and put the merchandise in his car.

He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a charge of theft of goods
