Raceland woman booked with Medicaid fraud

RACELAND, La. (AP) - A 23-year-old Raceland woman has been booked with Medicaid fraud for filing false claims.

Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell says Laketia M. Thomas surrendered to investigators Thursday.

Caldwell says Thomas, a personal care attendant, submitted false timesheets to her employer claiming that she provided personal care services to a Medicaid patient at the patient's home on the same dates and times the patient was being cared for by family members. This resulted in the Medicaid program being falsely billed for services that were never rendered.

If convicted of Medicaid fraud, Thomas could face up to five years in prison and pay up to $20,000 in fines.

It was unclear whether Thomas has an attorney.
