Slidell, La. - A 14-year-old girl was able to escape unharmed Saturday morning when a man attempted to abduct her while she was riding her bicycle, Slidell police say.
Around 8:30 a.m., the girl, who on her way to a local high school to attend a tutoring session, was taking a shortcut behind Big Lots at 196 Gause Boulevard.
Police say that's when a man, identified as 75-year-old Elvest Thompson, blocked the victim with his car, grabbed her wrist, and tried to drag the girl into the back seat of his car.
The victim fought Thompson by punching and kicking him. After escaping unharmed, the teenager contacted her mother who then contacted Slidell Police.
Slidell Police began their investigation early Saturday morning, and spent most of the day obtaining video surveillance from the area. The victim assisted police by giving a very precise description of the suspect, which ultimately was developed into a composite sketch.
Detectives established a profile of the suspect as an older black male with grey hair, grey moustache, and a grey beard who was driving an older model white Toyota Camry.
Slidell Police notified all local law enforcement agencies, while detectives continued to follow several potential leads. Early Monday morning, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputies were notified of a suspicious vehicle in the same area where the attempted abduction of the teen occurred.
