Elderly driver crashes car into Slidell post office

Slidell, La. - Six people were injured, including an elderly woman who crashed through the front of the Slidell Post Office in Olde Towne. Slidell Police Department spokesman Daniel Seuzeneau says a 70-year-old woman was attempting to park in a handicapped parking spot in front of the post office shortly before noon. Seuzeneau says the woman thought she was applying the brake, but stepped on the accelerator instead.

Her car crashed through the front window of the post office, injuring five people inside.  All of those injured inside the post office were customers.  One of the injured had to be airlifted to University Hospital in New Orleans with moderate to severe injuries, but  Seuzeneau says none of the injuries from the accident appears to be life threatening.  Slidell officials have not released the name of the driver, and it's not expected that any criminal charges will be filed against the woman.
