Lacombe, La - A Lacombe man was shot by a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputy who was responding to a domestic battery call. The incident occurred Monday at 11:15 p.m. in the 60000 block of S. Mill Rd. in Lacombe. The man is identified as 28-year-old Daniel Orgeron.
Police say that deputies, who were responding to the domestic battery call, received word that Orgeron was possibly armed with a gun. Upon arriving, officers noticed that Orgeron had one of his hands behind his back. He told the deputies that he was holding a gun. After refusing to show his hands, Orgeron charged one of the deputies aggressively, before being shot in the stomach with a single shotgun slug. As medical aid was being administered, Orgeron continued to fight deputies.
Orgeron was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is recovering from surgery.
Deputies found Orgeron's girlfriend on scene. She was suffering from a fractured hand and swelling around her right eye. She received the injuries from an earlier altercation with Orgeron. She was treated at a local hospital. Also on scene were two of her children, who are unrelated to Orgeron.
Once he is released from the hospital, Orgeron will be charged with one count of second degree battery, one count of domestic abuse battery - child endangerment, one count of aggravated assault and one count of resisting an officer.
According to police, Orgeron has a history of domestic abuse. In 2011, he was arrested after being involved in an incident with his mother.
